 "I don't get it" 2008-09-14
By phlacoe (Phoenix, AZ)
I've had my machine for about 5 years now and I'm still getting great espresso. My Briel gets heavy use, but the only thing I've had to replace is the brew screen (and that was $5). My guess is some people don't know what they are doing. Here's a few pointers:

1. Don't leave the basket mounted after you brew.

2. Keep your steam wand clean. Clean it each time you use it!

3. After steaming milk, if you want to brew another batch, turn off the steam button and dispense some water until the temperature light turns off. It's important because if you don't do this, you'll get burnt espresso from your water being to hot.

4. Keep your machine clean. Run a few batches of vinegar/water every once in a while to get rid of any mineral build up.

5. Spend the money on a conical grinder. You won't get consistent espresso if you're using a $20 coffee grinder.

The pump has a 25 year warranty (not that I've needed it). Spend some time on the Internet if you don't know what you're doing.

"Nice little machine, till it breaks and you need service." 2008-03-03
By Coffee Girl (New Hampshire)
If I had written this review 6 months ago, I would have rated this machine 5 stars, I loved it! Made excellent Latte's and was easy to operate. But then it started dripping out of the steam value, the day I discovered a plastic seal completely melted off the machine. I got in touch with the service agency Electra-Craft Inc. However when my "repaired" machine came back 3 weeks later, it was covered in ice, as they hadn't drained it properly after testing. The cover was warped, the entire pump section had exploded with ice forcing the front plate completely off hanging on only by the wires. 3 weeks of calls, emails and promises of replacement only to be changed a day later. I received my broken machine back still with the top plate broken and the front somehow magically reattached - even though all the chrome and plastic screw mounts were completely cracked...the best part, now they claim it was never really broken just wet! Nice little machine until it breaks and you need service.

"Work well, mostly with pods" 2007-08-19
By Rico (Idaho)
I agree with most of the reviews. In the beginning, the machine works well, but then starts leaking. Oftentimes, it is because of the way you grind the coffee. If ground too thin, it will leak. And if ground too coarse, nothing will happen. It can be very very messy at times.

But it works very very well when I use pods. Illy or Lavazza pods work well, and the crema is still good. Definitely a decent purchase....but don't expect to keep it for ever. You'll want to upgrade. Then you can use the Briel Cadiz for the office with pods (avoid the mess!), and keep a better one for home.

"6 years and still brewing great espresso!" 2007-06-06
By D. Hamilton (brick, nj)
I have owned this machine for 6 years and honestly, it has worked great for me. I have cleaned the filters three times so far and it continues to brew great espresso with a thick crema on top. I only use pods, so I get a great cup of coffee every time.

We recently had a birthday party and I set the machine up for all of my italian relatives and they all raved about the coffee. They all asked me where I got the machine and I told them "" about 6 years ago. They could not believe that a six year old machine could still look good and perform as well.

I have read all of the negative reviews and frankly, I am very surprised. In general, making espresso is about 50% the machine, 25% the coffee & water AND (most importantly) 25% the person brewing the coffee. If you have no idea what coffee to buy, how to set your machine for a nice strong cup of espresso or how to froth milk, buy yourself a tassimo or give it up and just go to starbucks!

Bought this for my desk at work. It brews coffee very fast and doesn't burn it while in the pot like other makers seem too.

The styling gets a comment (nearly all positive) from any one who sees it.

 "Nice Product." 2007-10-28
By Mark L (Chicago)

I do like this coffee maker alot. I have been a multiple Krups owner. The last coffee maker I owned was a DeLonghi which was bought at Target. It had more options and was less money. I don't think it lasted even a year before it started to turn off before the pot of coffee was done brewing, or would not turn itself off after 2 hours. I wanted to buy The DCM900 before I had bought the one from Target but could not get myself to spent the extra dough to get it. The one from Target was 50$ and became a fire hazard I thought. So after looking back at the DCM900 on Amazon I found one in my price range. Yeah it is alot of money for a coffee maker that is not loaded with tons of options, but the style and performance are great. It is kind of kool when people come by and they say wow nice coffee maker. No I can't program it to make my coffee before I wake up, and it does not grind my beans for me, but how many people are willing to to say to themselves am I crazy for paying that much for a coffee maker and do it?

 "Poor product, Poor support" 2006-12-25
By L. R. Zbar (Frederick, Maryland)
I had this coffee maker less than three months when it just stopped brewing in the middle of a brewing cycle. I immediately called customer support and spoke with Erica. She was very pleasant and offered several suggestions, including de-scaling the machine. She told me to call her back regardless of the results. None of her suggestions succeeded, including de-scaling, which proved to be impossible since the DeLonghi wouldn't brew anyway. And if the coffee maker did need de-scaling, its built-in de-scaling warning light never went on. In any case, I had a mess on my hands and called DeLonghi customer service back. This time I reached Amanda, who couldn't have been nastier and wouldn't or couldn't allow me to speak to Erica. I asked to speak to her supervisor, Josh, who was extremely condescending and unhelpful. Unfortunately, it was then that I decided to do my research, not before. It turned out there were numerous complaints registered with the Better Business Bureau concerning DeLonghi, several of which DeLonghi simply didn't respond to. DeLonghi's policy required ME to pay to ship their product to a service facility in Delaware for them to decide what to do with the machine. This is a very expensive coffee maker that has virtually no special features to warrant such a price tag. I am sorry I didn't do my research before I bought such a terrible product with awful customer support. Be warned before you repeat my mistake. I am currently awaiting word from the powers that be as to the disposition of my $225 investment.

 "SHOW AND GO!" 2006-08-17
By James Swafford
Bought this about a month ago, even though I could not find any reviews on it, I went for it.

#1. LOOKS! this is one beautiful coffee maker!

#2. 1500 watt S.S. boiler, that rocks. 6 minutes for a full pot.

timed it.

since I have had a chance to use it I have found the following.

You need some room, from a height perspective. it has lids that flip up for adding coffee and water. I had to relocate this to a part of the counter with no cupboards.Work out fine, I LIKE to show it off!

cleaning is a snap.

very simple, one toggle, off and on, thats it!

It seems to be built very well, time will tell.

If you want a beautiful machine that gets the job done,(water temp ect) I would HIGHLY recommend it. If you want a machine that you can program to make coffee for the next week. this is not the one.

So far I LOVE it. a work of art!

unfortunately it quit working after about a year..have not tried to contact customer service. it was great while it worked.

Used once. Unit Blew a fuse. No manufacturer supplied info on fuse and none on the fuse body. No contact information was provided by manufacturer or seller. Had to calculate fuse rating.

Unit is very slow to make coffee.

Power plug does not fit well in 12V accessory recepticles. Does not go deep enough into recepticle to hold itself in place, has a tendency to pop out of the recepticle.

No return information provded.

Considering all the problems, I would not buy another product from this manufacturer, nor would I recommend it to anyone else. Unit is overpriced.

"Gorgeous machine that makes great espresso" 2008-07-06
By Jon Shemitz (Santa Cruz, California, United States)
This is my fourth espresso machine. I bought it after the La Pavoni "Carina" (that I bought from Zabars) started to get unreliable, and I decided I'd rather replace it than to put more money into the Carina ... and still face a week or two of drip coffee.

While it is amusing how very little different the Professional and the 'Toy' models look, there is a big difference in performance. The Carina takes a very long time to heat up; this Carina Grande (which is what La Pavoni calls this black-base Professional model) takes five minutes. The Carina generates more steam pressure than a cheap automatic espresso machine, but the Carina Grande generates more steam pressure than the Carina. The result is that I get a better cup of espresso, with less need to plan ahead.

The machine is a little quirky. When you turn it on, it vents a bit of steam from the over-pressure valve before it makes a thtip sound and the pressure starts mounting. It's not very consistent about how long it will vent. If the water level is much below half-full, it may keep venting and not start building pressure.

I think the bottom line with La Pavoni is you get a really gorgeous Chrome Peacock that makes truly great espresso, but the workmanship is a bit uneven and you certainly shouldn't expect Japanese-car levels of reliability.

"An espresso machine for perfectionists!" 2008-02-08
By Claire Jordan (New Orleans, LA)
I have owned this machine (8-cup) for over ten years and everyday when I make my morning cappuccino I love it more. You can spend more for a machine that measures the coffee, tamps it, pulls the water through and steams the milk for you, but you can tip the kids behind the counter at Starbucks and they'll do the same thing. Making espresso should be a little art and a little science and this machine an impeccable balance of the two. If you aren't the kind of person who takes joy in mixing the perfect martini, making a risotto that whispers with flavor, or whipping a meringue to impossibly tall peaks, this probably isn't the machine for you.

The La Pavoni is for the person who will find tremendous joy in going to the lengths required to make a perfect cappuccino by hand everyday. (And don't bother using anything less than Illy Cafe coffee in it.)

"Best Super-Automatic Espresso Machine on the Market right now" 2009-06-26
By Jaroslaw Wegrzyn (Darien, IL)

First off i would like to say that i own 2 Saeco Magic Deluxes. The first Magic De Luxe was bought 16 years ago and still works to this date. I also own 2 saeco incanto sirius. The Saeco Primea touch plus is my newest addition and its wonderful. I rate it a 20/10.

Coffee and Espresso is much stronger than in the previous saecos that i have owned. Also the Coffee's and Espresso's are much hotter. [...]

*****Putting all aside, I have an issue with Jura not being able to make the same tasting plain cup of coffee using the same parameters as the Saeco. If you dont get coffee flow from the nozzle of the Saeco thats your reminder do the maintenance or if it takes much longer to make a cup of coffee green light goes up that the brew group needs rinsing.*****

If you dont do this your Saeco will not make coffee and you will think its broken... when really its not. The Brew group just needs to be cleaned.

I would advise any readers to not believe a single one of the 1/5 reviews, as the reviewers clearly dont own this machine.

As for the looks this machine looks incredible compared to my other Saeco's. This is the only super automatic on the market with a color touchscreen and it really looks amazing. The froth that this machine produces is unbelievable. Not watery at all. Very foamy :).

I would highly recommend the Saeco Primea Touch Plus. Very pleased with my machine and worth every penny.

Would be more than happy to answer any questions.

"What a piece of junk!" 2009-04-25
By Will (Los Angeles, CA)
I had wanted this coffee maker, since it came out. I finally sold my Jura Capresso F9, and pitched an extra ton of cash to be able to buy this machine and boy was I in for a big surprise!

First of all, this machine is a piece of junk! Why? Because, to begin with, once you have it in front of you, it looks, feels, operates and even weighs like a worthless piece of junk! This thing only looks good in pictures and on Saeco's website, because in real life, this machine looks like one of those plastic non functioning decoy phones that you may find at Best Buy instead of the real ones, so that you can get an idea of how the product looks.

In this case, it not only looks like that, but it also feels like one. I am so, sorry I sold my Jura Capresso to purchase this over priced coffee maker! I kid you not, a Bosch from Tassimo, looks more solid and of higher quality than this thing!

This does not, in any way represent anything that is remotely associated with high quality and state of the art technology! Saeco, can claim all they want with their Nano Technology, etc. The fact is, this machine looks like a $150.00 coffee maker and judging from its looks, materials and construction, that's probably what it costs to make!

Awful, awful, just plain awful! This machine is so light, that you can even move it around your counter with the tip of your finger! Yes, it is that bad folks.

And what about functionality? My God! This thing is plagued with defects, mine arrived with the side door unable to close, because the locking mechanism is so cheap and so frail that it broke and now will not hold the door in place, causing the machine not to start. I actually had to tape it to the body of the machine, in order to bypass this message and get it started.

Then, the top lid would not close, also causing the machine not to start! I had to put a book on top of it to bypass this message, so that it would start!

Then water started dripping from where the water container is placed within the machine!

And what of the touchscreen technology? Who cares! With all these problems, the quality of workmanship, cheap materials and their excessive use of cheap plastic!

I am returning this piece of junk to the merchant, and I am buying another Jura Capresso, which I've been using for years and never had a single problem of any kind!

Now, that I have seen what Saeco does, I can better appreciate Capresso's attention to detail, quality in materials and workmanship, as well as their technology, including their extensive use of metal which adds weight to the machine.

I will try to see if I can afford a Jura Capresso Z6, if not, I'll just buy another F9, like the one I sold to buy this piece of junk.

In short... Don't bother with this machine!

 "Never Ending Problems" 2009-04-01
By BrentlyL (Palm Springs, CA)
My Primea Touch Plus has been sent back to Saeco for repair twice for milk frothing problems and it still doesn't work properly. Saeco will try to blame you for the problem but after speaking to one of their authorized service centers I learned that this problem is inherent with this model. You can spin the white wheel all you want but the problem is the seal in the top hole of the cappuccinatore. It rarely makes a proper seal and when it doesn't the result is a loud screeching sound and no foam. The newer version of this machine has a different milk drawer latch than the prior model but it doesn't solve the problem. I will bet that their next version of this machine will have a completely redesigned milk drawer system.

Save your money and get any other Saeco machine with an old fashioned frothing wand. Making your first cup of caffeine in the morning is not the time you want to be battling a defective espresso machine and Saeco has some of the worst, most aggravating customer service I've ever experienced.

 "Promises Broken" 2009-01-16
By S. Streckenbach (Madison, WI United States)
After buying this machine in Seattle, I have been thoroughly disgusted. We have constant problems with this very expensive machine, even when following prompts, maintenance and very little truly automatic use. Particularly, its automated maintenance and cleaning cycles fail, or never end as in de-scaling. Sending the product into the company leaves you without a machine for 6 weeks. And, we are still having problems.

I would NOT recommend this product to others.

 "Looks Good on Paper" 2009-01-15
By L. Kline (New York, NY United States)
I had a problem with the first machine I received. It didn't work, and had to go back. The second machine worked but then gave me false error messages along the way. I sent that one back as well.

The machine looks better in the picture, but when you get it out of the box, it's made almost entirely of plastic. Although there are settings to change the way it makes your coffee, I found all of them to do very little with the final cup. I came away thinking it was too much money for an automated machine that could break very easily. The coffee itself was fine, and the frothing was average (the Milk Island was a total waste of time- if you can't hold up a pitcher to the steam nozzle, why bother having a cappuccino machine?)

Don't buy an automatic espresso machine. Too much to go wrong for a very average cup of Joe. Do a little work with a semi-automatic and you'll be much happier.

"I think this coffee pot could be a fire hazard." 2009-06-21
By Sherry in Texas (Texas)
I had this coffee pot for just over a year. It functioned consistently well up until that point. I liked how fast it brewed coffee and the ability to pull the pot out while brewing to pour a cup, but you can get these features with a lot of coffee pots out there. My biggest complaint up until it broke was that the plastic around the glass carafe easily stained and was a pain to keep up with.

After the coffee brews, there is two hours until it automatically shuts off. What happend with mine is that after two hours the little red light would shut off, but the pot remained on and kept heating the coffee. It had to be unplugged after using for safety, and that was kind of a deal breaker with me! It would not have been appreciated if I had gone off for vacation and had the pot remain on while I was gone.

I feel that this coffee pot is way over-priced for the amount of use I got out of it and I will not be buying this brand again. If you already own one, keep this electrical problem in mind.

"All metal in all the wrong places - not where it counts" 2009-01-13
By Nanci Garon (Tucson, AZ)
I wanted an all metal coffee maker, not one with plastic in all the areas that contact the water. I really feel it is unfair advertising to have this allowed to call itself all metal.

I am concerned, as many others, with heated water contacting plastic surfaces as heat causes leaching of many chemicals.

I replaced a Cuisinart which is much quieter. This pot is very noisy. The Cuisinart chimes when it is finished brewing. On this, when the noise finally stops, it is done. It is awkward to fill. I did not keep the box or I would have returned it.

It is nice looking, especially in the blue.

"Apple Green Hamilton Beach Eclectrics 40111 All-Metal 12-Cup Coffeemaker" 2008-12-15
By Melaney Postma (Irvine, CA.)
We ordered this coffee pot Dec 3rd, to be told by Today's concepts that they have to go through the manufacturer Hamilton Beach to get it. Well, Hamilton Beach already told me that it is discontinued. The problem is that Today's Concepts, Amazon and Foto Connection are advertising that they have this product in Apple color, but once you order it, you'll find out they don't. They are all going through Hamilton Beach who doesn't make it any more. It's a waste of time. Just and FYI for you all.

 "Won't last long" 2008-11-28
By Lulu (San Diego, CA)
For a year and a half, this coffee maker would have earned 5 stars. I bought it for it's solid construction and as a side benefit, it made darned good coffee. Then I noticed some blistering in the plastic lid that covers the water well. I guess the water heating element had melted it, making me wonder what kind of hot-plastic chemicals were seeping into my coffee. Then the burner plate started to peel...dramatically. I contacted the manufacturer to see if I could purchase a replacement cover for the water well and they never responded. It's gone to the landfill now and I've switched to a manual drip cone over an insulated carafe.

Greener and cheaper.

"Can't comment on the product, but don't order it here!" 2008-08-20
By C. Henderson
Despite the fact that Amazon still shows the red coffee maker today as being "in stock" at Today's Concept, after a month wait I got an email saying the order was cancelled because it is unavailable. I did, however, get the other matching pieces I ordered. I would not have ordered anything in the "Moroccan Red" if I had known I couldn't get the whole set. I will try to find it elsewhere on the internet; very disappointing transaction.

 "One good, one bad" 2008-05-08
By Tim in NY
I have two. They make good coffee. The problem is that on one of them the top of the canister that screws into the bottom of the canister was poorly manufactured such that it hurts my hand each time I screw it in, and it has never gotten better. Making matters worse, this screw-in top has little ridges all around its edge, presumably for better grip. Well, these ridges on the flawed top dig into the hand, causing great pain as I struggle to turn it. So, I have to use a dish towel over the cap when hand-turning it in or out. Therefore, this product is a crap-shoot. If the company would like to send me a replacement, please email me at

 "Great" 2008-04-07
By Meghan Tracy (Costa Mesa, CA USA)
Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker

Makes great coffee. I read other reviews that said they had problems with the filters, size, cap on the carafe. I have had no problems at all. It fits under my cabinets perfectly, I use the gold filter I bought from amazon, and as long as you read the instructions on how to use it, the carafe pours great.

 "Coffee Maker" 2008-03-29
By Benjamin Butler (Little Rock, AR)
Nice product. Easy to use and makes excellent coffee. Timer controls very easy to use although a little small and closely spaced, so the visually challenged will need their bifocals. Unit is tall so low cabinet height makes it difficult to store. Insulated carafe is great and keeps the coffee piping hot for hours without cook down.

 "Great coffee maker" 2008-03-26

Nothing fancy, it just works. Makes great tasting coffee, and is easy to use, easy to clean. The thermal carafe keeps the coffee warm without imparting burnt taste.

"Makes coffee very close to starbucks quality!" 2007-10-12
By keneke girl (NV)
ASIN:B0000X7CMQ Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker-

AWESOME! This device brews at a very hot temperature insuring full flavor and stays hot very very well in the stainless carafe. Once we actually used the same grounds again just to see what would happen (a scientific experiment:) and it made coffee as good as Carl's jr. (not really bad at all). Recommend that the #4 filter be used and simply fold off 7/8" of the bottom tip of cone. Other devices I have found really don't deliver full flavor and you end up using way more of your coffee... which in turn can make it too bitter...I suppose if you are one of those individuals that can't stand Starbucks, complaining that it is too strong, then this one would not be for you...
